Technology

Ogre3D is most likely the quickest prototyping choice for me right now simple because it's what I (and co-works) have the most experience in. However Unity is really calling my name for a number of reasons, mainly because it's seems to support high level scripting while remaining flexible. Cross platform code base is also important:)
Also looking into voxel engines like Voxlap, which was used for Voxelstein 3d.

Idea

Young Magellan
Navigate the oceans avoiding treacherous obstacles, monstrous creatures, and the edge of world.

Collect bounty and trade for goods at port to keep your crew and the ship in good shape.

Theme: Exploration of the oceans under the guise of the mythic, magical, early ages.
Genre: Sandbox RPG/Castle Defense

The world is an isometric scrolling map that’s bounded by a stationary circle. The player selects points on a map to navigate to which causes the level to scroll in that direction. The player must keep the ship in the circle to keep from falling off the edge while avoiding dangerous obstacles in the circle. The ship defenses are automated by weapons on-board, which can be purchased and upgraded at ports.

A linear story provides specific locations and rewards only available by fallowing the story goals.
However the players will be able to do as they please and still find action what ever path they choose.

For kids to adults
Platform: Web, Console, PC, iPhone

the start

As part of my effort to "get on with it!" I am choosing Young Magellan as the first game in a series(hopefully) to actually complete!
